New Investment Adds to Chlor-Chemicals'
Confidence in Growth
A new
investment has been agreed in principle which will create more jobs
in Halton and is part of Chlor-Chemicals' long-term strategy to
'Double in a Decade'.
High Chemicals, a Welsh-based company which
makes chemicals used to improve the environment, will construct,
own and operate a £2m production plant within the ICI Runcorn
site complex, doubling High Chemicals' total UK output.
The new plant will use raw materials supplied by Chlor-Chemicals
to make ferric and ferrous chloride, products used primarily by
water companies to filter drinking water and to treat sewage.
It is expected that High Chemicals will employ 25 people to manage
and operate the plant when it comes on stream in the summer of next
year, and around a further 100 jobs will be created during the plant's
construction phase, beginning January.
Adrian Bromley, Chlor-Chemicals' chief executive is confident the
deal is another significant step towards securing the business's
long-term success and says it is good news for all concerned. He
said: "This is an excellent deal for both our businesses and
indeed the local economy; the investment will provide more jobs
for the region and will produce chemicals which improve the quality
of life. It is also a further step towards achieving our long-term
plan of increasing the size of our business through our 'Double
in a Decade' strategy.
"The Runcorn site has recently seen a growth in investment
by a companies operating alongside our Chlor-Chemicals business
and we are looking forward to a productive partnership with High
Chemicals well into the future."
