Good News for Wildlife Revealed in Latest Report

Little Ringed Plover at Nest Randle Landfill Site

Wildlife continues to flourish on ICI Chlor-Chemicals' sites in Halton according to the latest ecology report on the company's operations, providing further evidence that environmental improvements made by the company are paying dividends for the local environment.

The report, produced by a local ecologist David Platt, shows that the company's Runcorn site, Randle Island and Frodsham Marsh Lagoon continue to be home for a variety of bird species including Lapwings, Ringed Plovers and Oystercatchers. The sites also continue to support a large variety of plant life including rare species such as the Bee Orchid and the Goldilocks Buttercup.

In particular, Randle Island's landfill site showed record numbers of both Bee Orchids and Common Spotted Orchids coupled with a high population of breeding ground-nesting birds.

David comments:- "ICI sites support several bird species whose numbers are in decline nationally - notably the Partridge, Lapwing and the Skylark. And in terms of orchids and other rare plants, these sites continue to be at the forefront of Cheshire's botanical heritage."
