ICI Chlor-Chemicals Acquired by INEOS
ICI has today announced that it is to sell its
Chlor-Chemicals business to Ineos. The deal also sees the transfer
of the majority of ICI's remaining Industrial Chemicals operations
(Klea and Crosfield) into the hands of this experienced and committed
industrial chemicals player.
Adrian Bromley, chief executive of ICI in the
North West, commenting on the announcement, said:
"This is good news for our employees and good news for the future
of our business. Ineos will be an enthusiastic and capable manager
of our significant assets across the UK, Europe and Far East Through
this acquisition, Ineos further confirms its position as the UK's
second largest chemical company.
"Following the initial announcement to the Stock Exchange - as ICI
is legally required to do - our current priority is keeping our
colleagues and those with an interest in the business in touch with
the news. Further sessions will take place over the coming weeks
to brief staff about future plans for the operation," he said.
The focus for Chlor-Chemicals is to deliver customer service and
meet safety, health and environmental targets. As the UK's biggest
producer of chlorine and a major force in Europe, the deal will
help strengthen its position in the national and international marketplace.
It provides Ineos with a new opportunity to deliver its strategy
of growing by acquisition, and organically, in the bulk chemical
sector in Europe.
Under Ineos, the business will wish to continue to foster positive
relationships with national, local and community stakeholders.
