Another Success for BiChlor™ Chlorine Membrane Electrolysers

INEOS Chlor through its Electrochemical Technology Business (ETB) has signed an agreement to provide BiChlor™ membrane electrolysers, with a chlorine production capability of 100 metric tonnes per day, to Ahlia Industrial Projects (AIP), Kuwait.

Ahlia, whose current facility is 16 years old, is the only producer of chlorine in Kuwait. Following an extensive process and equipment evaluation by personnel from Ahlia and external consultants, Simon-Carves Ltd, it has been agreed to replace and up grade the existing electrolysers with BiChlor membrane electrolysers.

ETB will also be providing the basic engineering design to integrate the new electrolysers into the existing plant, assessment of the existing process equipment for maximum flow sheet design and a full technical support package for the life of the electrolysers. Simon-Carves will be taking care of the project management and detail engineering of the plant enabling work to accommodate the new electrolysers.

Ahlia Industrial Projects has chosen BiChlor™ because it combines state-of-the-art technology with low power consumption, long component lifetime, improved production quality and enhanced safety. The latest membranes, coatings and materials of construction will be used and the BiChlor™ plant will be provided with a total service package, which includes on-site training and commissioning. The plant start up is expected to be first quarter 2003.

Ahlia Industrial Projects Chairman, Mr Faisal Al-Khalid said "We are pleased to have selected the latest membrane electrolyser technology on the market in BiChlor™ and look forward to a close working relationship with ETB. We are sure that this project will be a great success for all involved."

INEOS Chlor's ETB manager, Stuart Collings, said, "We are delighted to agree this project with Ahlia Industrial Projects. Our state-of-the-art BiChlor™ membrane technology will allow AIP to improve the performance of their plant, which we will be backed up with outstanding technical service. This project is the latest in a number of BiChlor™ projects that we have sold recently and further demonstrates the suitability of BiChlor™ for experienced chlor-alkali operators. We are absolutely committed to the development of BiChlor™ technology so that it continues to deliver outstanding performance for AIP for many years to come."
