Northwich Lantern Festival

A river of light streamed through Northwich on October 13th 2001 when over 200 people joined the lantern procession organised by the Weaver Valley Initiative and Vale Royal Environment Network. Shoals of fish followed a huge sun lantern, flanked by dozens of decorated, candle lit lanterns made by local children.

Lantern making workshops were led by local artists, Wendy Meadley and Melanie Young. Taking part were children from Winnington Park Community School, Wildlife Watch, Friends of Furey Wood, Weaverham Sea Scout Beavers and Hartford Campus Eco-Club. The event was funded by Mersey Basin Campaign, INEOS Chlor, Cheshire County Council and Vale Royal Borough Council.
