Butterflies of the Weaver Valley
The Cheshire and Peak District branch of Butterfly
Conservation has published a free leaflet about the 26 butterfly
species to be found along the Weaver Navigation from Winsford downstream
to Frodsham. Six common butterflies, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell,
Gatekeeper, Speckled Wood, Orange Tip and Common Blue, are featured
in artwork painted by Ben Smart. Each is shown against a landscape
feature such as the Salt Union tower at Winsford and the Horse Bridge
at Dutton Locks.
Funding for the leaflets was kindly provided
by Vale Royal Borough Council and INEOS Chlor via the Weaver Valley
Initiative. The leaflets are being distributed in time for Easter
and will be widely available from locations such as libraries, council
and information centres.
