INEOS Chlor supporting the Weaver Valley Initiative
The Weaver Valley
Initiative is an active partnership of public, private and voluntary
sector organisations, between Winsford Flashes and the river's confluence
with the River Mersey. INEOS Chlor, through the Landfill Tax Credit
Scheme, is a supporter of the Initiative.
Its aims of the Intiiative are:
- To protect and enhance the river and its tributaries,
recognising and acknowledging the rich wildlife in the valley
and its valuable landscape.
- To promote the unique heritage and industrial
archaeology that exists in the valley.
- To improve water quality so a thriving fish
population can be maintained along its entire length.
- To promote public use and appreciation of
the valley.
- To stimulate sympathetic waterside redevelopment
and environmental improvement.
The Weaver Valley Initiative plays an active
role by providing:
- A contact point for groups and organisations
who share common interests.
- Information on the River Weaver
- Specialist advice and assistance for projects
such as clean ups, stream surveys and environmental improvements
- Resources to help environmental projects.
The Initiative is part of the Mersey Basin Campaign: a 25 year
partnership to improve water quality and promote waterside regeneration
throughout the Mersey Basin river system.
The River Weaver Education Pack
The Education pack is aimed at key stage 1 and
2 pupils and covers the geography, industrial history and ecology
of the River Weaver, from its source in the Peckforton Hills through
to its confluence with the Manchester Ship Canal and the Mersey
Estuary. The pack also contains suggested sites for fieldwork plus
possible work programmes.
The packs have been distributed to all
primary and secondary schools in the Vale Royal and Halton area.
