INEOS Chlor Green Action Grants

People in Halton interested in greening-up their local environment could benefit from an ongoing community scheme set up by local chemical manufacturer INEOS Chlor.

The Green Action Grant Scheme is a joint venture between INEOS Chlor and the Weaver Valley Initiative to provide support for community based environmental improvement projects across the borough. The scheme is open to community organisations including residents' associations, interest groups and environmental societies as well as local schools.

Janet Ward, who manager INEOS Chlor's community program, comments: "This is a great scheme designed to help smaller community groups with projects to spruce up their local environment. The scheme is open to everyone and we are particularly keen to hear from young people with ideas for their local environment."

Grants of up to £1,000 are available for organised projects with an environmental focus including tree planting, improvements to ponds or streams, wildlife gardens or litter clean-ups. There is no closing date for applications, but funds are limited, so those interested should apply as soon as possible.

Groups who think their project deserves funding should contact either Janet Ward at INEOS Chlor on telephone 01928 515227 or Ann Bates at the Weaver Valley Initiative on telephone 01606 79576 for a grant application form.

Editor's Notes

Funding from the Green Action Grant Scheme has already benefited a range of environmental projects across Cheshire including the creation of a wildflower garden in Northwich; a new nature garden and windbreak at the Acorn Community Nursery in Runcorn; a pond-dipping platform at Delamere Forest and the preservation of a mural in Halton in association with Halton Community Partnership Trust.

The Weaver Valley Initiative is an active partnership of public, private and voluntary sector organisations. The initiative spans the River Weaver from Winsford Flashes to the confluence of the Mersey. The Initiative is part of the Mersey Basin Campaign; a 25-year partnership to improve river quality and promote waterside regeneration throughout the Mersey Basin River System.
