INEOS Chlor Working to Improve School Grounds in Halton

Local chemical manufacturer INEOS Chlor this week announced the latest schools to receive funding from its School Grounds Improvement Scheme. Projects submitted by Weston County Primary and Palacefields County Primary in Runcorn have been selected for funding and will each receive a £3,000 grant from INEOS Chlor.

The Scheme, run in partnership with Cheshire Wildlife Trust, was set up to help local schools improve their outdoor play areas. Projects have already been completed with six primary schools from across the borough including Hallwood Park and Halton Lodge in Runcorn, and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Widnes.

In addition to designing improved play areas that will foster better pupil behaviour, the schools are also encouraged to consider the environment and to develop ideas that will attract wildlife onto their grounds.

Janet Ward, community relations manager for INEOS Chlor, comments: "The beauty of the scheme is that the pupils at each school are actively involved in the project from start to finish, from developing the initial ideas to producing the final design. This provides them with a rich and rewarding experience."

So far INEOS Chlor has donated almost £21,000 to local schools under the scheme with further projects planned during 2003/2004.
