LANDFILL TAX CREDIT SCHEME SUPPORTING NATURE CONSERVATIONMoney generated through INEOS Chlor's Landfill Tax Credit Scheme is continuing to fund important nature conservation work in Cheshire. As part of a wide-ranging programme to conserve the environment and local wildlife, the scheme has recently provided a grant of £1,000 to the Mid Cheshire Barn Owl Conservation Group. The grant will be used to provide much needed materials and equipment. In 1998, Cheshire Wildlife Trust carried out a survey that indicated there were less than 20 known pairs of breeding barn owls in the whole of Cheshire, compared to around 250 pairs during the 1940s and 50s. With the help of the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, the Mid Cheshire Barn Owl Conservation Group was established in 1999 with the specific aim of reversing the dramatic decline in barn owls. The group now consists of some 60 or so people across mid Cheshire who make and erect breeding boxes and raise public awareness of the plight of the barn owl. John Mycock, from Mid Cheshire Barn Owl Group comments: "We are delighted to receive this money from INEOS Chlor, which means we can continue with our work to restore the number of barn owls in Cheshire. We rely on the support of local businesses such as INEOS Chlor for funding". Said Janet Ward, INEOS Chlor's community relations
manager: "We are pleased to be able to support this important
conservation work as part of our ongoing work with Cheshire Wildlife
Trust and the Weaver Valley Initiative. For further information please contact the INEOS Chlor Press Office: Craig Welsh |
