INEOS CHLOR SUPPORTS HENSHAWS SOCIETY FOR BLIND PEOPLE

Manchester based charity Henshaws Society for Blind People has benefited from a £200 donation thanks to INEOS Chlor at Runcorn.

The chemical company has provided the charity with funds to continue its work with blind and visually impaired people of all ages across the Northwest, including five adults in Halton.

The charity's services include housing, education, IT training, social activities, a patient support service and support for children and families with a visual impairment. In addition to this, Henshaws provides a specialist college for visually impaired teenagers in Harrogate and an impressive Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough that is open to the public.

Sarah Klaveness from the charity said: "We are grateful to INEOS Chlor for this donation. The money will help us to maintain and develop our services. We can see the difference every donation makes to the people we support, who just want to live ordinary, independent lives."

The charity is focused on developing the independence, skills and mobility of visually impaired people. Emphasis is placed on people's abilities rather than their disabilities, which is of vital importance when changing negative perceptions and reducing the social isolation that blind and visually impaired people too often experience.

Said Janet Ward, INEOS Chlor community relations manager: "This is a very worthy cause as the charity helps visually impaired people from all walks of life to regain their independence and improve their quality of life."
