INEOS CHLOR STAFF GET IN THE SADDLE FOR CHRISTIE'SThree cycle mad staff from chemical company INEOS Chlor joined more than 6000 fundraisers recently to take part in the 19th Annual Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride in aid of the Christie Hospital. Terry Walsh, Lorain McCann and Chris McKenzie, who are managers at the chemical plant, battled against sweltering heat to complete the 60 mile trip - and went one step further by cycling all the way back! They finished the 120 mile round trip in just over eight hours and raised over £550 for the Christie's charity. Comments Terry: "We supported each other along the way, particularly on the return journey. It was a grueling trip, but well worth it for the charity." Christie Bear, the Christie's mascot, was joined
this year by gold medal cyclist Chris Hoy who kindly started the
race and gave a few encouraging words to the thousands of cyclists
taking part. Adds Terry: "Last year the event raised
over £190,000 and it is hoped that the appeal will raise even
more this year. It was great fun taking part if not tiring. We'll
be putting aside our bikes for a few weeks to recover." The team is already gearing up for their next
challenge to raise money for Christies, which will see them join
other INEOS Chlor staff in the Manchester 100 Bike Ride (100 mile
trip) this September. ENDS Photo: (from left to right) Terry Walsh, Chris McKenzie and Lorain McCann set off on their 120 cycle ride in aid of Christie's For further information please contact the INEOS Chlor Press Office: Craig Welsh
