INEOS CHLOR RECOGNISED FOR INVESTMENT IN THE NORTH WEST

Runcorn based chemical company INEOS Chlor has been recognised for its contribution to the North West by receiving the Mersey Partnership Inward Investment Award. The award was presented to the company for its continued investment in the Region, which will see almost £390 million spent on its key manufacturing operation at Runcorn over the next five years.

INEOS Chlor, which manufacturers chlorine and caustic soda for use by over 90% of UK manufacturing, is currently undertaking an ambitious modernisation programme at its Runcorn site, including the installation of a new state-of-the-art chlorine cellroom using environmentally friendly technology, a new boiler plant and central control room facilities.

Said Tom Crotty, CEO INEOS Chlor: "I'm delighted to receive this award on behalf of INEOS Chlor. Our company is proud to be at the heart of the chemical industry in the North West. We are committed to developing our plant at Runcorn into a world-class facility that contributes to the economic prosperity of the Region and provides a secure future for those who work here."

INEOS Chlor was presented with the Inward Investment Award by Chairman of the Mersey Partnership Roy Morris who commented: "This is the first year that we have been able to formally recognise those companies that are playing a vital role in the economy of the Region. These awards are particularly appropriate in the Capital of Culture Year of Faith and the nominated companies are showing their faith by investing in our people and our Region."

INEOS Chlor was one of 18 companies to receive an award, who between them have invested more than £500 million in the Region and created or safeguarded almost 3,000 jobs. The latest European Investment Monitor Report published earlier this year by business advisers Ernst & Young showed Inward Investment in the North West increased almost three-fold in the twelve months to January 2004.
