FRODSHAM MARSHES ARE ON THE MAP

THE Thornton-le-Moors to Frodsham Greenway has now been signed with large finger posts installed on the marshes to provide information for visitors to the area. Walkers, cyclists and horse riders have been enjoying the extensive network of Public Right of Ways across Frodsham Marshes for centuries. Groundwork Macclesfield & Vale Royal have been working in partnership to develop way markers for some of the routes, secure funding and promote them to local people and visitors who wish to enjoy the unique landscape.

Cheshire County Council, Vale Royal Borough Council, local chemical manufacturer INEOS Chlor, Frodsham Forward and Shell UK have contributed funds to ensure that these signs make a valuable contribution to attracting new visitors to the market town of Frodsham and the surrounding area. It is anticipated that the increased numbers of visitors will extend their stay to the benefit of local rural businesses and the Town.

Jennifer Poole from Groundwork said: "The Greenway across the marshes provides a safe off-road route for all ages and all abilities, especially families with children."

Comments Janet Ward, Community Relations Manager, INEOS Chlor: "We have a deep commitment to this area and are very pleased to be able to provide support for this project through our Landfill Tax Credit Scheme. These markers will provide guidance to visitors and will help to make the area more accessible and user-friendly. In time we hope that their inclusion will increase the number of people who come to explore the marshes and the surrounding areas."

This Greenway is part of Frodsham Forward, contributes to the Vision for the Mouth of the River Weaver, the National Cycle Network Route 5 and will also form part of the Mersey Loop of the North West Coastal Trail, a route that stretches from Chester to Carlisle.
