'GEE UP RUNCORN' GETS A FINANCIAL BOOST TO SECURE ITS FUTURELocal
chemical manufacturer INEOS ChlorVinyls has recently donated £600
to secure the short-term future of the 'GEE Up Runcorn' project
- an exercise programme for the elderly run by the Four Estates
Charity in Runcorn. 'GEE Up Runcorn' stands for Gentle Exercise for the Elderly and the aim of the project is to supply professionally tutored exercise classes which are tailored to the needs of the elderly and disabled. Over a period of time the gentle exercise can provide real benefits to the elderly by improving health, mobility, breathing and general well being. In addition the group is a vital social link to some of the borough's most 'at risk' pensioners. The classes are currently held at Halton Brook Community Centre and at Palacefields Community Centre, both in Runcorn. The donation from INEOS ChlorVinyls has helped secure the future of the classes for another 6 months. Janet
Ward, INEOS ChlorVinyls' Community Relations Manager said; "We
are delighted that we could help both the Four Estates Charity and
the senior citizens of the Halton community by supporting this project.
This project is providing great benefit to many pensioners in Halton
by helping them to keep active and in touch with one another." Chris
Carlin, Community Development Officer for Four Estates Charity,
said; "Its great that INEOS ChlorVinyls, a local company, can
help the older residents of Halton. The donation that they have
provided will make a real difference and will ensure that the classes
can be sustained for at least another 6 months. It's very rewarding
to see our senior citizens keeping active and enjoying themselves
at the same time." ENDS
