VOLUNTEERS DIG IN TO PLANT NEW TREES FOR VICTORIA PARK
Widnes’s Victoria Park continues to go from strength to strength thanks to
volunteers from the park’s conservation group who have planted more than a
hundred new trees.
Green fingered enthusiasts from the Victoria Park Environment Team planted the 130 trees, including hazel, rowan and hawthorn, to help attract even more wildlife to the park.
The tree planting was coordinated by The Mersey Forest and funded through the Landfill Communities Fund by Runcorn-based chemical manufacturer INEOS
ChlorVinyls, and is the first phase of habitat improvement work being undertaken by the volunteers.
Janet Ward, Public Relations Officer at INEOS ChlorVinyls, said: “It’s great to see local people working together with Halton Borough Council to create new areas within the park and to enhance its existing beauty spots.
“These new trees will help increase the variety of the park’s wildlife and
complement a whole range of improvements which have taken place at the park
over the past few years.”
