PVC for the automotive sector

PVC is one of the thermoplastics commonly used in the production of motor vehicles. It is found in upholstery materials, side panels and dashboards inside our cars, trucks and buses.

The main interior applications of PVC in a typical Western automobile are door panels, rear shelves, head linings, seat trims, arm rests, etc.
Protection against corrosion and flying gravel is assured by under body sealants. Metal parts are joined by mastics to eliminate friction and squeaking. Sound proofing materials, electric cables and harnesses are other PVC products encountered in vehicles of all types.

INEOS ChlorVinyls' range of Hy-vin® grades developed for the automotive industry satisfies a wide range of component applications, including bodyside trims, waste seals, cables, doorseals/finishers, window seals, interior mouldings and hose and tubing. A number Vaycron® high performance thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) grades have also been developed for this sector, including S/LF grades - formulated without liquids, high HDT rigids and S/LD - micro cellular materials.
