Environmental Declarations - Wilhelmshaven Site, Germany

In 1998 the INEOS ChlorVinyls operations at Wilhelmshaven Site obtained certification to the international environmental standard EN ISO 14001. Since then our environmental standards and performance measures have been audited annually by an independent environmental expert. In obtaining the EN ISO 14001 certification, it was possible to incorporate the performance obtained by the Company under the previous quality standard EN ISO 9001, obtained in 1991, which already contained safety, health and environmental aspects.

At the start of 2000, an additional detailed environment declaration was drawn up and validated for the Wilhelmshaven operations in accordance with the Ecological Audit Directive (Regulation (EEC) 1836/93). It was entered onto the site register in July 2000. Simplified Environment Declarations on progress made are issued each year. The second detailed declaration lists the environmentally relevant data for the year 2002 and outlines the targets for the period 2003 through 2005. The entry in the site register held at the Chamber of Industry & Commerce of Lüneburg-Wolfsburg was also extended on 20 June 2003.

Under the Directive, a simplified Environmental Declaration is drawn up each year. The simplified Environmental Declaration for 2004 is based on the structure of the Detailed Declaration for 2003 and basically constitutes a continuation of the chapter "Environmental Data" based on the figures for the year 2003. Likewise, the same applies to the simplified Environment Declaration for 2005, which represents a continuation of the chapter "Environmental Data" based on figures for 2004.

In 2006, INEOS ChlorVinyls submitted its third consecutive detailed Environment Declaration for the site at Voslapp. The declaration lists environmentally relevant data and outlines the targets for the respective reporting period. The Environment Declaration is based on the amended EC Eco Audit Directive (EMAS II), which came into force in 2001 and further supplemented in February 2006. The provisions of DIN EN ISO 14001 "Environmental Management Systems" were also taken into account.

The simplified Environment Declaration for 2007, which is a continuation of previously reported data and targets, is based on the structure of the detailed Environment Declaration for 2006.
