INEOS ChlorVinyls - Runcorn Site
Environmental Performance Report 2001
INEOS ChlorVinyls
publishes an annual Environmental Performance Report covering
aspects of its safety, health and environmental performance at Runcorn Site, UK.
In 2001 INEOS ChlorVinyls outlined its
ongoing commitment to safety, health and the environment
through a set of challenging performance targets for Runcorn
Site called 'Towards 2005'.
This is the first year of performance
data covering the site under INEOS ChlorVinyls ownership, and
we are pleased to share this with you.
Summary
- The total number
of minor injuries in 2001 was less than in 2000 which
was a very pleasing achievement. Although the number of
Classified Injuries (those injuries requiring more than
first aid treatment) increased slightly over the exceptional
performance of 2000, data shows a continued downwards
trend.
- Substantial progress
was made to reduce releases to air as major improvement
projects such as the Chloromethanes refridgeration packages
came on stream. Waste disposal was also down on the previous
year.
- The first area
of Runcorn site was recommended for accreditation to ISO14001
in line with other sites operated by the business. We have made good
progress to better protect the health of our workforce
- primarily though better understanding and monitoring
of the effects of work related stress.
- On the whole, the number of incidents
remained low during 2001, but unfortunately there were two
releases of chlorine at the end of the year that warranted
the instigation of the 'Cloudburst' off-site emergency procedure.
No member of the public or any people on the site were affected
by these releases and the on and off-site emergency response
dealt quickly with each incident. INEOS Chlor sincerely
apologises for these and is committed to working as safely
and responsibly as possible in the future.
