INEOS ChlorVinyls - Runcorn Site Environmental Performance Report 2002

INEOS ChlorVinyls publishes an annual Environmental Performance Report covering aspects of its safety, health and environmental performance at Runcorn Site, UK.

Summary

1. The total number of Minor Injuries to our employees at Runcorn Site remained the same as for 2001 - this included all cases of first aid treatment, however minor the injury.
2. Earlier recognition of stress-related symptoms has reduced the ill-health effects of stress amongst our employees.
3. During 2002 we continued to make good progress to reduce our releases to air and water. In addition, we have further reduced our disposal of waste to land.
4. We commissioned a tree conservation report and are working with Halton Borough Council experts on an ongoing maintenance plan to develop wildlife habitats at Clifton Clough Ancient Wood, near to Runcorn Site.
5. The business gained accreditation to ISO 14001 for its chloromethanes, ECU, power services and solvents operations at Runcorn Site. Other INEOS Chlor manufacturing sites at Northwich, Baleycourt (France) and Bangpoo (Thailand) have already achieved ISO 14001.
6. The number of incidents at Runcorn Site during the year remained low, but unfortunately we just missed our 2002 performance target. In response to this we have upgraded our improvement plans to get us back on track. None of the incidents in 2002 gave rise to action by the regulatory authorities.
