INEOS ChlorVinyls - Runcorn Site Environmental Performance Report 2004

INEOS ChlorVinyls publishes an annual Environmental Performance Report covering aspects of its safety, health and environmental performance at Runcorn Site, UK.

Summary

1. We continue to closely monitor our performance for all injury types to identify and implement improvements that prevent harm to those who work at Runcorn Site. In 2004, the number of Minor Injuries showed an increase, more so for people working for our contractor partners - this is in part due to stricter reporting routines. During the year, we achieved a period of 4 months continuous working without a Classified Injury (an injury that requires more than first-aid treatment) and our contractors achieved their best ever performance with a period of three months Classified Injury free. This excellent performance was achieved during a time when there are considerable construction and maintenance activities at the site.
2. The continued improvement in managing the health of INEOS Chlor employees has been maintained and the Company achieved a 99% compliance rate across 2500 worker samples taken.
3. We achieved our best ever performance on environmental incidents. The number of incidents occurring in the year was low, continuing a downward trend, and none of these gave rise to action by the regulatory authorities.
4. INEOS Chlor achieved the ISO 14001 Registration Mark for Environmental Management covering all of its manufacturing activities at Runcorn. This mark is awarded by the British Standards Institute only to companies that can demonstrate high environmental standards and compliance with legislation.
