Community Outreach

At INEOS ChlorVInyls we have a clear understanding of our responsibility to the communities near to our production sites and further afield.  Indeed, our business operations are firmly established as an integral part of these communities with a history of more than 120 years of manufacturing at some locations.

Several of our operations share sites with other businesses on industrial parks and this creates mutual respect, recognition and good cooperation between companies.  Additionally, the majority of our sites are relatively close to neighbouring communities and many of our employees live locally.

INEOS ChlorVinyls prides itself on being an open organisation that is willing to listen to people from the communities in which we operate. We are committed to building positive relationships with people across all sections of these communities, and are working hard to ensure that we are a good neighbour.

Many of our sites operate an 'open door' policy whereby our neighbours are free to contact us to arrange a visit.  Importantly, we share a commitment to foster continued dialogue within all of our interested stakeholders.  This is achieved in a multitude of ways from advertising our EMAS Public Statements in the media; education initiatives with schools and universities; regular briefings for local authorities and members of local, regional and national government; through to the sponsorship of local community projects and charitable organisations.  Above all we aim to create value for our communities by providing long-term viable employment and to make the residents in the neighbouring communities proud of who we are and what we represent.

We are justifiably proud of our contribution to society through the chemicals we make, which help to save lives, protect and promote health, and enhance standards of living around the world. Furthermore, our businesses across Europe make an significant economic contribution at local, regional and national level.

INEOS ChlorVinyls is working hard to develop a positive image for the Chemical Industry and to increase understanding of the ways in which the products we make contribute to the quality of everyday life. Our wide ranging Community Outreach Programme brings together a number of key activities including school visits, specialist talks, site open days and targetted campaigns with the media at local, regional and national level.

Case study: Welcome to Molekylverksta’n!

Since 1993 we have been developing “Molekylverksta’n” together with the other petrochemical companies at our Stenungsund Site, Sweden.  Molekylverksta’n is an exciting and informative science discovery centre with a focus on chemistry and energy. The main purpose of the centre is to stimulate children and young people to learn more about the natural sciences and to keep the public informed about the petrochemical industries in the area around Stenungsund. There are more than 50,000 visitors every year to Molekylverksta’n including schoolchildren, the general public, industrial representatives, exchange students and tourists from outside of Sweden.
